PROFHILO: The Ultimate Anti-ageing Aesthetic Treatment

Do you ask yourself what’s the secret to having a glowing completion and firm-looking skin that looks like it has just been airbrushed?

Being over thirty doesn’t mean saying goodbye to healthy, plump and radiant skin. Today there are a number of new, non-surgical aesthetic treatments for skin rejuvenation, which are taking the beauty world by storm, and Profhilo is one of them.

So, if you were planning to add more hours to your sleep routine in order to make your skin look well-rested, you may want to try Profhilo instead. It not only gives you the look of I-have-just-come-back-from-a-two-week-holiday-in-Mauritius, but that dewy, healthy, slightly plumper glowing completion that takes a good five years off your face.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is not a dermal filler and unlike Botox, it doesn’t freeze your muscles. It is a non-permanent, injectable anti-ageing treatment made from hyaluronic acid and designed to treat skin that’s losing its elasticity and firmness.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally by our body, which means it doesn’t try to fight it or get rid of it. Because its role in the body is to retain moisture and aid collagen production, Profhilo can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, which makes it an ideal substance for binding moisture in the skin.

As we age, however, the production of hyaluronic acid lessens, and this becomes visible in our skin, which turns duller and dehydrated and experiences the first signs of ageing, with fine lines and wrinkles forming around the eyes and mouth.

Profhilo contains the highest concentration (64mg) of hyaluronic acid available on the market. Think of it as a super hydrating and rejuvenating moisturiser, which gets injected just underneath the surface of the skin, rehydrating, re-texturing and instantly boosting hydration. No other topical lotion containing hyaluronic acid could ever achieve the same results.

Where can you have it injected?

Profhilo can be used on your face, neck, décolletage, arms, and hands. There is an immediately noticeable improvement in skin tone, hydration as well as firmness, and fine lines are minimised.

What’s the actual procedure?

Profhilo treatment involves a set of ten jabs — five for each side of your face (in the cheekbone area, in front your ears, the jawline, your chin, and each side of the nose) administered in two different sessions, with a four-week interval in between.

Although the thought of having ten injections in your face may be a little unnerving, your aesthetic doctor will normally apply some numbing cream to take the edge off and the actual needles are so fine that there is hardly any discomfort. I also use some ice to help minimize any pain, swelling and bruising. You may feel a slight stinging sensation as the liquid is pushed into the skin but that’s about it.

The procedure itself only takes between 5-10 minutes. After it, your skin is going to look like you have just been beaten by a mosquito for 4-5 hours. After this time, the lumps will gradually disappear as the hyaluronic acid spreads throughout your skin.

Depending on what sort of skin you have, you may still have a few bumps hanging around the following day.

The second session will be about four weeks later.

How quickly will you have visible results?

The week after your first session, your skin will start feeling more hydrated but you won’t be able to see any visible results until after your second Profhilo session.

Two to three weeks after the second session, your skin will feel plumper, tighter, and look fresher and younger.

How long does the effect last?

Over the next 4-6 weeks after having Profhilo, the hyaluronic acid will boost the production of elastin and collagen in your body. This effectively remodels the skin and giving it a plumper, smoother and firmer appearance.

The hyaluronic acid will continue to simulate the collagen for another 6-8 months. This is called neocollagenesis, a process which triggers the collagen receptors in the skin.

After this six to eight months, it is advised that you have top-up sessions every six months or so. This will help you maintain your skin looking young, healthy, and with that beautiful shimmer glow you get when you apply a flawless filter to your selfie, with the difference that is actually real.

Who can have Profhilo?

Anyone really! It is most suitable for people over the age of 30 who feel uncomfortable because their skin has started to lose its plumpness and is showing visible signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles, and crêpey looking skin. Profhilo can be used on its own or in conjunction with dermal fillers, Botox, and other advanced aesthetics treatments.

How much does Profhilo cost?

Profhilo’s cost varies from clinic to clinic, starting from £250 up to £500 per session. Like with any other injectable, it is important that you put yourself in safe hands and that a qualified aesthetic doctor carries out your treatment. A doctor understands where the muscles are and the anatomy of the face and will be able to give you the best treatment while keeping you safe.
